Welcome to the Digital-Vision SYS! Our goal here is to provide you with exciting and provocative pictures of digitized images for the IBM PC/AT, MacIntosh, Amiga and Atari. All or most of the images are in .GIF format so that they are compatible with various machines and are displayable on your computer if you have the right hardware. This SYS is also the home of the famous pictures called, "DIGIPICS" and also the NEW "DGI" format that Basi Angulo has popularized. He writes the Turbo Pascal routines while I do all the art work. All of the DGI's that I have created are available on this sys. All the artwork I do is put up on these Bulletin boards so that you can have first hand view of the work I do. Running a sys and also drawing takes quite some time but in the end analysis I do enjoy it and also hope that you will enjoy the unique experience here that I have available. The files available on this system are very unique and quite appealing. As for my own artwork, I try to create the impossible and the probable. Sad and happy, subtle and bold to rapture your mind? I feel that my pictures are a emotional statement as much as a technological display as well. In the end, you will decide what it means as each picture imparts different things to different people. After all its a fantasy world for you to enjoy! I do realize all this does not come cheaply so I do make this a subscriber BBS only as I need a certain amount of support to carry on my work and also further enhance/upgrade the BBS so that more users can enjoy this. A: Well, it depends on what you want to access. If you were only interested in, lets say MACPAINT images you could get by with minimum access. You can use 30-40 min perday and get quite a few of them since they don't consume very much disk space. Ofcourse on the other hand you wanted to access the LARGER SuperVGA pics then you could get only a couple a day because they take quite some time to get. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Q: I have PCPURSUIT and can only run at 1200 baud. What do you suggest is the best time access slot. A: I would go for the maximum as your access is halved or less because of the multi-modem setup of PCP. But this is your choice depending on how much time you want to spend. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Do I have to UPLOAD some files when my download limit has been reached because of a ratio system? A: I have NO RATIO SYSTEM! You dload whatever you wish. Don't worry about how much you have accessed. The only restriction is in the next question. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What is the FILES POLICY of Digital Visions Sys? A: Whatever NON-DV files are yours to do with whatever you choose provided you follow the artists or shareware authors considerations. Pertaining to MY DV files, please do not UPLOAD them to another BBS. I am not laboring to create files for other BBS's. Sure many files are posted but most are very old and were free when my BBS was ALL free. The NEWEST files created now are very state of the art and costly so I ask that they are not made public. Sure give them to your friends or to other enthusiasts on a person to person level but NOT PUBLIC access. SAMPLE files are exempt. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I use a "HANDLE" on your BBS sys? A: I request most strongly you use your name or a name that resembles a real name. Users on my BBS system cannot access or list the users onboard. I do this as some people want to remain totally anonymous to other members. If you wish to send a private msg. This pvt msg is not seen by other users in any shape or form. I respect users right for confidentiality if this is your request. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: Who is MADAM-X anyway? A: MADAM-X is a user/model who frequents the BBS circuit to answer her private fan mail as well as post images of herself on certain BBS. PLEASE read this policy so that you may fully understand what and what can't be uploaded. FILES with NON-DV name: ======================= ANY file that does not contain the DV signature is free of any restriction and you may do whatever you wish. If the image is anothers BBS or artist please respect whatever policy they have formulated on their behalf. If the file is a program and has a shareware statement please read it and respect the authors labors by supporting him/her. Digital Visions named files: ============================ Once upon a time and How it ALL began I have MANY files available across the world as I had been a 'free' BBS at one time (1986 or abouts). This was a year in which my one line was busy non-stop 24 hours a day. I also was working non-stop (after regular work) to create pictures as well. At that time my speciality were .DGI and MacPaint (readmac) images. During this process it was all very fun and dandy but alas getting a little expensive to purchase magazines and other items to scan. I had asked for people to send in old magazines and whatnot to offset this expenditure but I had no takers. Absolutely none! I even had a free scan service as a enticement should they send in SOMETHING. Well, it is at that point I realized that I was going to have to go with a subscriber type system. My initial fee was $5.00 to $12.00 depending on the time amount. I had 'lost' about 80 percent of my users at that time. The other 20 percent became my original subscribers. From then on I had some cash influx to actually create better images as I had been restricted before. The VOLUMN of the files went way up and in doing so attracted other users who wanted something out of the ordinary. With the drives becomeing full, I had to raise the fee incrementally to purchase them. From 20's to 30's and then twin 30 meg drives to 60's and on. As you can see, there is no END to this thing! With so many files that I had created, there was a danger of other DV clones sprouting up overnight. There were a few and thats when I had formulated my files policy. I felt there was no point to laboring hours which somebody could download in minutes and have it available for others whom did not support the system. I had enough files on the BBS circuit to advertise my system so I felt files restriction was in order. Ofcourse the impact of this is never calculatable but even though some disagree, I enforce this restriction policy by my calling other BBS's and checking the content of there system as well as users notifying me of other systems which have TOO many DV files. Ofcourse TOO MANY DV files is a relative thing. 20 DV files that are a year old is not that big of a deal but 20 I just created a month ago. Well thats SERIOUS to me! This is when I have to plug the leak! Well, as you can see I have gotten to a point where I feel that some of my images are pretty `creme of the creme` and I defend their uniqueness vigorously. The creations of most of the 16 to 256 color GIFs are made with many programs that cost $200 to $400 and because of the cost I make them ONLY for my subscribers on a person to person basis. Give them to your friends or people interested in computer art. I find this type of exchange a wonderous thing to spread the news about computer art to those who can readily express interest in it. I don't want to ge too long winded on this subject but I felt that users need a explanation on the WHY's of my policy. This is especailly true to SYSOPs who would like to have some graphic files to augment their system. The SYSOP (as well as other members) create files for access for the subscribers ONLY. Usually these files are one-of-kind and cannot be had anywhere. Because these items are rare, the DV board takes a different policy than most systems. The DV sysop's files are meant for endusers only. This means that you can give them to your friends and co-workers but NOT for mass distribution as that would take the unique nature of the file you have possessed. I would like that the unique sysop files NOT become a public commodity with your help. The bottom line is that through subscriber support DIGITAL VISION can create new images and also upgrade/maintain the board so that it may service the people who support it in a unique fashion. 2) I reserve the right to terminate any user. 3) If there are any violations, fair warning will be issued. 4) I have the right NOT to accept a person as a member 5) Some material may be unacceptable when uploaded and I have the FINAL say so on the material to be posted.
