In the opener, Brandon gains notoriety after his first date, and Brenda dates a lawyer after using an altered ID to get into a dance club. Photo promo: The nice normal Walsh family just moved from Minneapolis to Beverly Hills. It might as well be Mars. 1.02 10-11-90 "The Green Room" The Walshes come to see that style is no substitute for substance as Brandon hits the beach with one new friend (Luke Perry) who may have both, and another who fears she has neither, while Brenda is left high and dry there by style-conscious Kelly. 1.03 10-18-90 "Every Dream Has Its Price (Tag)" Brenda's new friend has a problem, in which Brenda suddenly finds herself included. Meanwhile, Brandon gets a job, and Cindy gets a maid, against her wishes. 1.04 10-25-90 "The First Time" Brandon gets a visit from his Minneapolis girlfriend, who brings pleasure one night, but pain the next. Meanwhile, Brenda has an adventure in baby-sitting for a hunk teacher. 1.05 11- 1-90 "One On One" Recruits from outside the school district may sink Brandon's shot at making the basketball team. Meanwhile, Brenda takes her third - or fourth - shot at driver's training. (1.02) 11- 8-90 [repeat] 1.06 11-15-90 "Higher Education" Cheating seems justified to Brandon when he feels victimized by a teacher's grading curve. Meanwhile, Brenda suffers from poor hair coloring. 1.07 11-22-90 "Perfect Mom" Brenda envies Kelly's relationship with her hip-looking mom, until she sees another side at a public event, where Andrea blossoms. 1.08 11-29-90 "The 17 Year Itch" A reunion with the dashing photographer who introduced them in college illuminates some stress between Cindy and Jim, whose differences are reflected in their kids. 1.09 12- 6-90 "The Gentle Art of Listening" On a teen help line, untrained volunteer Brenda becomes the trusted contact for a date-rate victim. Meanwhile, Brandon falls for a worldly older woman. (Guest: Lisa Dean Ryan (Doogie Howser)) -- 12-13-90 [not aired] (1.05) 12-20-90 [repeat] (1.03) 12-27-90 [repeat] 1.10 1- 3-91 "Isn't It Romantic?" While Brandon is wary, Jim is definitely opposed to the growing attraction between Brenda and Dylan. 1.11 1-10-91 "BYOB" Brandon's first experience with tequila isn't as meaningful as his second, when he and Brenda host a party while their parents are away. (1.06) 1-17-91 [did not air - Desert Storm coverage] 1.12 1-24-91 [did not air - Desert Storm coverage] "One Man and a Baby" Brandon learns some pitfalls of parenthood when he dates a senior who baby-sits a lot; Brenda and Kelly learn to take a fall - out of a plane. 1.13 1-31-91 "Slumber Party" Kelly's friend brings an attitude to Brenda's girls' night in. Meanwhile, Steve and Brandon walk a lonely road on a night out with two comely women. Photo promo: Intimate secrets will be revealed. Startling confessions will be made. Tonight, you're invited to a slumber party... Beverly Hills style. (1.09) 2- 7-91 [repeat] 1.14 2-14-91 "East Side Story" Brandon and an East L.A. exchange student overcome initial hostilities, while the Walshes remain hostile to an unwelcome visitor surprisingly common in Beverly Hills. (Guest: singer Debbie Gibson) Photo promo: Brandon Walsh is about to find out how dangerous love can be. 1.15 2-21-91 "A Fling in Palm Springs" Plans for a Palm Springs weekend include time alone for Dylan and Brenda, but not time with David's grandparents, who turn out to be much cooler than David. 1.16 2-28-91 "Fame Is Where You Find It" The right look at the right place at the right time gets Brandon a shot at TV stardom, while Brenda plays a role covering for Brandon at this restaurant job. 1.17 3- 7-91 "Stand (Up) and Deliver" Kelly and Andrea take different tacks helping Brandon run for class president, while Brenda seeks to run her own ship - out of school and away from home. Photo promo: "Watch it for a couple of weeks - and you may get as hooked as I am" John Voorhees The Seattle Times (1.04) 3-14-91 [repeat] (1.10) 3-21-91 [repeat] 1.18 3-28-91 "It's Only a Test" Worries about SATs take a back seat when Brenda finds a lump in her breast, a fear heightened by her family's medical history. Photo promo: Young love is about to face a grown-up challenge. (1.01) 3-31-91 [special repeat of series pilot] (Sunday) (1.12) 4- 4-91 [from previous postponement] 1.19 4-11-91 "April is the Cruelest Month" Brandon suspects that the driving force behind the school's tennis star may drive the boy to drastic action - with a gun. Meanwhile, SAT scores have Donna suspecting a bleak future. Photo promo: The pressure to succeed. It can be a killer. Guidelines: A high-school tennis star has everything but a good relationship with his father on a suspenseful episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. (1.06) 4-18-91 [repeat] 1.20 4-25-91 "Spring Training" Spoiled kids with smart mouths - and meddling parents with designer snacks - spoil Brandon's enthusiasm for coaching baseball; an ailing Jim howls at Brenda's request to keep a stray dog. 1.21 5- 2-91 "Spring Dance" It's a spring dance, and the chance of romance is good for Dylan and Brenda, possible for Kelly and Brandon and nil for Steve, who carries a torch that's about as cumbersome as his date's dress. 1.22 5- 9-91 "Home Again" The family's excitement over Jim's promotion is short lived when he reveals it means moving back to Minnesota. (1.11) 5-16-91 [repeat] (1.13) 5-23-91 [repeat] (1.14) 5-26-91 [repeat] (Sunday) (1.07) 5-30-91 [repeat] (1.15) 6- 6-91 [repeat] (1.18) 6-13-91 [repeat] Guidelines: Having lost a 35-year-old aunt to breast cancer, Brenda is understandably alarmed when she finds a lump in her own breast. A thought-provoking March episode. (1.19) 6-20-91 [repeat] (1.17) 6-27-91 [repeat] (1.20) 7- 4-91 [repeat] Photo promo: Beverly Hills, 90210. The summer begins. - - - - - 2.01 7-11-91 "Beach Blanket Brandon" The second season begins with the end of school, a new job for Brandon, and perhaps the beginning of the end of Brenda and Dylan. Luke after a scare gives Brenda a few second thoughts about having an adult-style relationship. Photo promo (3 half pages) Guidelines: Fox gets the jump on the traditional fall TV-season as Beverly Hills, 90210 begins its second season with Brenda in the aftermath of a pregnancy scare, in doubt and confused about her ability and willingness to handle a mature relationship. 2.02 7-18-91 "The Party Fish" At work, Brandon connects with an older worker and with a mover and shaker whose hard-to-refuse offer causes shakiness at home with his dad. Meanwhile at school, Brenda connects with her emotions in acting class. Photo promo: Spend your summer enjoying their summer Guidelines: Despite his father's disapproval, Brandon considers working for a high- powered sports promoter on a perceptive first-run Beverly Hills, 90210 that's reminiscent of "The Flamingo Kid" 2.03 7-25-91 "Summer Storm" Cindy's mothering instinct upsets Jim and Brenda after she brings injured surfer Dylan to recuperate at the Walshes'. Meanwhile, Kelly's instincts are spiked by a handsome volleyball player. Photo promo: New living arrangements. Tonight, Dylan moves in with the Walshes. 2.04 8- 1-91 "Anaconda" Brenda burns naturally, but Brandon and friends are in hot water when their after-hours poker game at the beach is followed by a burglary. 2.05 8- 8-91 "Play It Again, David" Acting as a "big brother," Brandon is asked to keep a secret that needs telling; and Kelly fears a familial connection to David when their parents start dating. 2.06 8-15-91 "Pass/Not Pass" Andrea finds more drama when the student-teacher relationship goes outside the classroom; Brandon finds the fruit of his summer labor is sour - as in lemons. (1.12) 8-22-91 [repeat] 2.07 8-29-91 "Camping Trip" Rain on the kids' Yosemite parade strands the gang of seven next to newlyweds who teach - and learn - some things about love, marriage, divorce and communication. (1.16) 9- 5-91 [repeat] 2.08 9-12-91 "Wildfire" Dating others no longer looks good to Brenda when Dylan dates the new girl in school, whose datebook also includes Brandon. Meanwhile, Scott and David find what a difference a summer makes. Photo promo: The first day of school. His first look at Emily Valentine... Two things Brandon will never forget. 90210 BACK TO SCHOOL 2.09 9-19-91 "Ashes To Ashes" A new black family in the neighborhood includes a freshman photographer and his older sister, whose boyfriend is roughed up by a security patrol when he tries to visit. 2.10 9-26-91 "Necessity is a Mother" Dylan says the full-time presence of his mother is driving him crazy, and although he doesn't say it's driving him to drink, soon he doesn't have to. Meanwhile, class success Donna plays the stock market for real. (1.14) 10- 3-91 [repeat] 2.11 10-10-91 "Leading from the Heart" A mutual attraction between Kelly and the Walshes' visiting cousin is complicated more by others' assumptions than by Bobby's wheelchair. Meanwhile, Brenda takes another driving test. 2.12 10-17-91 "Down and Out of District in Beverly Hills" Brandon's good deed turns into a bad seed for Andrea, as it grows into the possibility of her expulsion from West Beverly. Meanwhile, Steve is unwittingly mined by a gold digger. Guidelines: Lainie Kazan guest stars on a touching episode of Beverly Hills, 90210, playing Andrea's grandmother. Guidelines (from 1-30-92): Lainie Kazan guest stars as Andrea's grandmother on a touching repeat of Beverly Hills, 90210. It seems that Grandma's ZIP code is 90210, but Andrea's isn't; she lied about living with her grandmother in order to attend West Beverly High. Problems arise when the school catches on, and Grandma refuses to lie. (1.18) 10-19-91 [repeat] (Saturday) -- 10-24-91 [not aired - pre-empted by special entitled "Idols", looking at "the objects of teen admiration", which will include Doherty, Garth and Perry] 2.13 10-31-91 "Halloween" A Halloween party is highlighted by Kelly's bewitching costume - and lowlighted by someone's reaction to it. Meanwhile, other twins give Brandon and Emily a scare; and David and Scott remember "the good old days." Photo promo: TRICK OR TREAT. 90210. It's a Halloween party and you're invited! Guidelines: Halloween thrills are offset by serious chills on a fairly scary Beverly Hills, 90210. 2.14 11- 7-91 "The Next 50 Years" Donna and David save a party from being a social disaster, but they're powerless against an accident that ends the party - and a life. Photo promo: 90210. Tonight they will lose one of their own. Guidelines: A moving Beverly Hills, 90210 has students reacting to the death of one of their own. 2.15 11-14-91 "U4EA" Emily leads the gang to an underground club, where she leads Brandon against his will on a journey with financial and emotional costs. Photo promo: Tonight, Brandon finds out about drugs and Emily... the hard way. Guidelines: Drugs, alcohol and the inherent loss of control they bring are addressed on a solid Beverly Hills, 90210 in which Brandon is slipped a curve - a drug - by girlfriend Emily, whose intention is to bring them closer together - it doesn't. 2.16 11-21-91 "My Desperate Valentine" Hard to do, but it must be done, so Brandon breaks up with Emily, who doesn't take it gracefully. Meanwhile, Brenda and Dylan declare a night filled with music instead of making out. Photo promo: When Brandon broke up with Emily, things got weird. Now they're getting dangerous. Guidelines: Mysterious phone calls and threatening letters reminiscent of "Fatal Attraction" highlight a taut Beverly Hills, 90210 in which Brandon - ever the gentlman - makes it "crystal clear" to Emily that they are no longer a couple. And Emily does not take the news like a lady. (2.07) 11-28-91 [repeat] (2.09) 12- 5-91 [repeat] 2.17 12-12-91 "Chuckie's Back" A reunion show for Steve's mother hinges on her former TV son, Steve's childhood nemesis whose current needling prompts Steve to fight back at the wrong time. Guidelines: Another romance blossoms on Beverly Hills, 90210, but the main storyline concerns adoptee Steve's sudden desire to find his natural parents, prompted by a confrontation with the actor who played the TV son of his adoptive mother. Christina Belford plays Samantha Sanders. 2.18 12-19-91 "A Walsh Family Christmas" Carol longs for Christmas Past in Minnesota, until those with no particular place to go - and others with very particular destinations - find their way to Christmas Eve at the Walsh home, where Brenda's new pal Santa adds a special touch. Photo promo: Tonight, at 8:30/7:30, join us for a 90-minute holiday episode. It's the most special night of the year. Guidelines: It's Christmas Eve in Beverly Hills, 90210, so don't fret, there's bound to be a happy ending as Steve looks for his birth mother, Dylan visits his jailed father, and the romance between David's dad and Kelly's mom turns rocky. Meanwhile, doubts and suspicions grow concerning a mysterious Santa. (2.10) 12-26-91 [repeat] (2.11) 1- 2-92 [repeat] 2.19 1- 9-92 "Fire and Ice" Brandon becomes a pleasant distraction for a figure skater with Olympian goals; backstabbing is included in Brenda's tutoring in retail-sales skills. Guidelines: Beverly Hills, 90210 takes advantage of Jason Priestley's ice-skating skill in this episode addressing dedication to craft. Randy Gardner choreographed the skating sequences and plays an Olympic hopeful's assistant coach; Tai Babilonia plays a TV announcer. (2.14) 1-16-92 [repeat] 2.20 1-23-92 "A Competitive Edge" Brandon trades his reporter's pen for track shoes, until he smells a story he can't - and shouldn't - ignore. And Brenda's minor accident turns major when the woman she bumped claims whiplash. Guidelines: Clandestine meetings ... anonymous sources ... the threat of violence against a suspected squealer. No, it's not an expose of a covert government operation, it's just another day in Beverly Hills, 90210, where steroid use becomes an issue at West Beverly High. Brenda's dubious driving ability is the subject of a subplot. (2.12) 1-30-92 [repeat] 2.21 2- 6-92 "Everybody's Talkin' 'Bout It" The condom-distribution program at school had many talking, some writing and one most adamant - until there's an unkind comment from an unlikely source. Photo promo: AN IMPORTANT 90210 Tonight, the issue neither parents nor teens can keep silent on any longer. Guidelines: The controversy over condom distribution in high schools hits Beverly Hills, 90210 in a well- crafted episode with a number of surprises as to who's pro, who's not and why. Even the ending has a surprise, and there are some nice developments between characters not usually at the forefront. 2.22 2-13-92 "Baby Makes Five" Dylan keeps mum about valentine plans for Branda, but no one keeps quiet about Kelly's mom and David's dad, each the last to know what's going on with the other. Photo promo: Tonight, Al & Peg Bundy host a night of romance. [Simpsons photo on the left page, 90210 on the right (Dylan is "chewing" on the pearl necklace around a smiling Brenda's neck)] Guidelines: Musician Billy Vera and Ja'net DuBois (Good Times) make a guest appearance on this year's valentine's show, in which the news about Kelly's mom spreads like wildfire, and her relationship with David's dad hits the skids. (2.03) 2-20-92 [repeat] (2.04) 2-21-92 [repeat] (Friday) 2.23 2-27-92 "Cardio Funk" Separate admirers court attention from Brenda and Dylan, neither of whom is fully forthcoming with that news. And Jim gets hooked on Karoake. Photo promo: [pic of Luke and Brenda] Maybe it was just too good to last? 90210 Guidelines: The relationship of Beverly Hills, 90210's most popular couple is strained when Brenda catches the eye of a pre-med student, while Dylan is busy trying to help a fellow AA member.
