AIP-NL Releases UltraCompressor II revision 2 (UC2r2)

UTRECHT, The Netherlands, July 1, 1994. AIP-NL today released a major
upgrade to its data compressing archiver UltraCompressor II (UC2). The
upgrade includes more than 50 new commands, options and other
enhancements.

UC2r2 is easy to use,

   - Advanced integrated manual
   - Integrated, easy to use configuration tool
   - Core manual also included in French, German and 12 other languages
   - Transparent conversion of 12 archive formats (with virus scanning)

has superior performance

   - 8-60% better compression than competing software
   - Up to 10 times faster archive updating than competing software

and is very powerful.

   - Damaged sectors can be reconstructed without any loss of data
   - Capable of managing very large file collections
   - Support for archive splitting (e.g. spread over diskettes)
   - Full OS/2 extended attribute support
   - File selection based on date, time, contents(!), query, etc.
   - Triple-DES heavy duty encryption (UltraCrypt)
   - Heavy duty authenticity verification (UltraSeal, UltraSafe)

UC2r2 version management.

In addition to UC2's option to store multiple versions of a file, UC2r2
now offers project level version management. This allows users to
'label' states of a project (collection of files) and to return to such
a state with one simple command. All this, of course, with superior
compression.

Requirements: MS/PC-DOS 2.1 or higher, IBM Compatible 8088 or higher,
640k RAM, 1Mb hard disk space. UC2r2 detects and utilizes EMS/XMS,
386/486/Pentium, MS-Windows, OS/2, Novell-DOS, DesqView, etc..

Since its first release (January 1, 1994) UltraCompressor II has
rapidly gained momentum. Its open third party interface (UC2-3PI) has
enabled third parties to add full UC2 support to their applications.
Applications with full UC2 support currently include ArcMaster, AVIEW,
Dos Navigator, MTA and SHEZ.

Benchmark.

This is a benchmark made by AIP-NL with 'Dean Cooper's comparer
program, Version 1.02'. The benchmark compares UC2r2 with PKZIP 2.04g
and ARJ 2.41a. Of course, the user can perform the best benchmarks by
comparing the tools in 'real life' situations. The test has been
performed on a 486/33 PC with MS-DOS, QEMM and Norton Cache (flushed
before each test) loaded.
