The setup program will overwrite the sample mailbox, and and sample services with updated ones. If you have modified the sample mailbox (even renaming it), it will be replaced by the one shipped with the updated version of the product. You should check your mailboxes after upgrading, and you should update the properties of the sample mailbox to ensure that it has the password and limits you desire. Prior to Installation --------------------- 1. Please ensure that you have the latest version of your modem’s INF files. These are the .INF files that are on the disk shipped with your modem. They can also be downloaded from your modem vendor’s web site. It important that you have the correct files for your voice modem, and not the files for the non-voice version of your modem. If you have any questions regarding obtaining these files, contact your modem vendor. Notice ------ CallAttendant now permits you to evaluate it without having a modem installed correctly. The Configuration Wizard will warn you if you do not have a supported modem, and will allow you to continue. You should be aware that if you do continue, CallAttendant will not be able to answer calls, and it's Server will not run. Installation ------------ 1. Run the self-extracting file you downloaded to start the installation process. 2. You will then be stepped through the installation of the program. At various points you will be asked questions regarding the installation, such as where you want the program installed. For most users, the default options should suffice. If the install program detects that you do not have Unimodem/V installed on your computer, it will prompt you to install it. The install program will copy the required Unimodem/V files to your computer, and will install Unimodem/V on to your computer. Unimodem/V is a generic voice modem driver provided by Microsoft that should work with most voice modems. You must have Unimodem/V installed to use CallAttendant with voice modems. CallAttendant Setup ------------------- 1. Run CallAttendant by locating and selecting it from the Start Menu. The default install options will place it under Programs, CallAttendant. 2. CallAttendant, when launched for the first time, will run its Configuration Wizard. This wizard will step you through the process of setting up CallAttendant. Known Problems -------------- 1) CallAttendant may not capture the first fraction of a second when a message is taken using the Take Message element. 2) Unimodem/V under Windows 98 does not provide correct Caller ID numbers. CallAttendant's Flow Control and Notify Pager elements will thus not work using the caller's number because of this Windows 98 problem. 3) Some modem/Unimodem combinations may not detect short DTMF tones. If callers are unable to operate menus from digital telephones and corporate PBXs, this is most likely why. 4) The new mail notification action (display dialog box, display task bar icon, or play sound) may not always occur.
