Artistscope Secure Image Source Copyright - All Rights Reserved Art Dept (nsw) Pty Ltd 1998. HOW IT WORKS: Instead of placing a normal image onto the html page. The image is first encrypted and then inserted into a viewer that sits on the page replacing the image. The encrypted image is unusable unless in its appropriate viewer. It is only the encrypted image that is uploadded to the server, so the master files are safe. The Artistscope enables the use of high resolution images that even with the complex techniques of screen capture, only the poorer quality of the screen resolution is obtained. LIMITATIONS: The Artistscope is warranted to work in version 4 browsers on both PC and Mac platforms. Although the Artistscope works for Macs on the internet, the Converter only works in Windows at this stage. Mac users are recommended to find a freind with a PC. Once the Artistscopes are encoded, the final editing can then be done on the a Mac in html. Earlier model Mac users are recommeneded to update their Java Virtual Machine. This is available for free at http://www.apple.com/java/ If you have a look in the html code below you will see the code: ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- The code above is for the Artistscope applet as it appears in html. The VALUE parameters can be used for modifications while in html mode on your favourite editor. When the image is first encrypted by the Converter, all of the above parameters can be set simply. If the image and applet need to be customised later, with basic skills all of the above parameters can be used to 'arrange' the display. width and height - is the overall size of the Artistscope in pixels. picture - is the encoded image, please note that it is called .class. fileSize - is the size of the image file in kilobytes. border - the width of the frame in pixels around the image. 0=none. loading - is a text message displayed in the viewer while the image loads. color - is the foreground colour used in the frame and text. bgColor - is the background colour of the html page. link - the url of the next page or intended hyperlink. label - is for the artist's details and notice. ------------------------------------------------------- CONVERTER The Artistscope Converter encodes your JPG or GIF files so that they cannot be viewed outside of your registered Artistscope applet. The Converter is a desktop viewer operating in Windows95 and NT. It is used locally on your computer to encrypt the images or batches of images. It is only the encrypted images that should be uploaded to the server. For ease of use the Converter will enable a preview of your images in a window for selection, allow manipulation of size, and then save the new encoded images, applets and their html pages to your designated folder. ------------------------------------------------------- TO INSTALL THE CONVERTER Unzip the downloaded file into a temporary folder. Open this folder and click on the EXE file. Follow instructions until the setup is complete. The installation will automatically create a new folder on your C drive where it can be easily located later. To add an icon to your desktop, right click on the new EXE file and select "create a shortcut". The new icon can then be cut'n'pasted to your desktop for ease of startup. The install program simply loads the Artistscope files onto your hard drive in the order that should remain. It does not affect your registry in any way. When activated, a self contained browser will open up for you to work with, the window can be collapsed and resized to suit yourself. To encrypt one image or a batch of images, simply click on the ADD button and select your image from the directory. As the image is highlighted a preview will be shown in the window with an indication of its size. When ready simply click the CONVERT button and you will be asked to which directory. All the relevant files will be saved to the designated folder which can be later moved to anywhere. The image can be distributed into pages by copy and pasting either the applet icon or its html code. To alter the image size to suit the page, simply click on the SCALE button and type in the new size as a percentage. The actual pixel size of the new image will appear above the window. To set the colour of the applet background and thus the FRAME click on BACKGROUND. To set a frame around the image click on BORDER and set the width in pixels. To set the colour of the LOADING TEXT click on FOREGROUND. To encrypt one image or a batch of images, simply click on the button and select your image from the directory.
