One of the most troublesome areas in typing is that of learning to plan the horizontal placement of tables. Table entry with a word processor, however, is considered to be a rather simple process. First, determine the longest or key line in each column. The second step is to decide how many spaces will be placed between columns, six spaces being the most commonly used number. Now from the left margin key in the longest line in each column, separating each entry with the proper number of between column spaces. After this has been completed, center the line with the centering command. At this point you are ready to set the left margin and the tab stops. The left margin is set by moving the cursor to the beginning of the first column and executing the left margin command. Do not set any tabs until the existing tab stops are cleared. Once the tabs have been cleared you may then move your cursor to the beginning of the second column and there execute a tab set command. A similar process for all subsequent columns is implemented to complete the table organization. Once the correct margin and tab stops are in place, the entered guide copy is to be immediately deleted.
