The keyboarder can easily center material horizontally when a word processor is used. Usually, this involves only a single line in the document and the material is correctly centered with a single keyboard command. However, at times there does exist a need to center several lines of material simultaneously. When using Simple Writer the several lines of copy must first be marked with a block command to ensure that the centering command involves only the specific lines that the operator wishes to center. After a marked area is centered the unmark command is employed to unmark the copy. Simple Writer permits the automatic vertical centering of text material. If the data is to be vertically centered on a full page, the keyboarder may position the material at any vertical point on the page. After the lines are keyed, or entered, the vertical centering command instantly places the material on the page with equal top and bottom margins. Centering on a half page or any vertical area less than one page demands that the area's beginning and ending points be marked. Once the vertical centering command is executed to center the lines, the marked area is removed from the page.
