6 6 5 7 MUTUALS.TXT (C) COPYRIGHT 1990-1994 GARY J. DARVEAUX The next step is to select the horses which will run in the race. You can also let the computer do this automatically if you wish. After the horses are selected the computer will select the post positions randomly, calculate the betting odds for each horse, and list the field of horses... What happens next depends on the game you are playing. If you were playing the @15Betting Game@7 you would now enter bets. You can enter win, place, show and exacta bets for up to eight players, or enter unlimited bets if you do not want record keeping for individual bettors. If you were playing the @15Jockey Game@7 you would now select the horse you want to ride. You can also let computer select your horse for you. In Jockey Game races the horses are fairly evenly matched so you always have a competitive race and a reasonably good chance to win. In the @15Trainer Game@7 you would now provide instructions to your jockey. You must decide if you want your jockey to go for the lead, stay close to the pace, or lay back and save energy for the homestretch. You can also specify whether to keep your horse on the inside (to save groung on turns) or on the outside (to avoid getting into "pockets"). Your jockey cannot always follow your instructions, but will do so when possible.
