================================= WINDOWS TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE FOR YOU DON'T KNOW JACK CENSORED ================================= This troubleshooting guide describes possible solutions to problems that you might experience while playing YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored on your IBM PC or compatible. Before you call Berkeley Systems PC Technical Support, scan this guide for your specific problem and see if we've already found a solution. NOTE: This version of YOU DON'T KNOW JACK requires Windows 95. It will not install or run on Windows 3.1x. Installation and Anti-Virus Software ------------------------------------ Before installing YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored, disable all anti-virus software on your machine, as it could interfere with the installation. To disable your anti-virus software, consult the software's documentation. Installation on NextGen 586 Computers ----------------------------------------- Windows erroneously identifies the NextGen 586 processor as a 386 chip. Because the YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored installer requires at least a 486 processor, it will not install on computers with the NextGen 586 chip. To resolve this situation you must install NextGen's patch, which corrects Windows's identification of the chip. Please contact NextGen for details about acquiring the patch. Playing YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored ------------------------------------ When you run the game application, the concurrent version of the CD-ROM must be in your CD-ROM drive. The 1.5 version of the engine that comes with this package will not run with older (or newer) CD-ROMs. Launching YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored for the First Time --------------------------------------------------------- The first time you launch YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored, the application initializes many of its settings in order to optimize its performance on your particular system. The initialization may take a while, so sit back and relax. Sound Quality Problems ---------------------- If you hear "stuttering" audio during the game or during heavy hard-drive and CD-ROM-drive access, contact your CD-ROM drive and audio card vendors to make sure that you have the latest drivers. Unusual Crashes --------------- If you experience unusual crashes while running YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored, make sure that your system is configured properly to run multimedia titles. Follow these instructions before calling Berkeley Systems PC Technical Support. For Windows 95: 1. Uninstall YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored using the uninstall option in the YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored portion of your Start menu. 2. Select System Tools (START, Programs, Accessories, System Tools) and run the integrated ScanDisk utility. Also run the System Tools Disk Defragmenter. 3. Restart Windows 95. 4. After Windows restarts re-install YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Censored. If problems persist, verify that you are using the most current and appropriate drivers for your CD-ROM drive, sound card, and video card.
