Whenever positioned before your computer you can begin to properly keyboard only following a number of preparatory steps. These steps should be completed in a systematic and efficient manner. First, clear your desk of everything you do not need. Be certain the front edge of your keyboard is even with the edge of the desk. Consistently position copy on the right side of your keyboard, angled slightly towards you for easier reading. Check for all of the required work supplies including disks and related items. Always be sure the working area has ample lighting and proper ventilation. The monitor should be adjusted for tint and brightness to prevent eyestrain. Also, external light sources need to be controlled in order to eliminate screen glare. Prior to beginning any keyboard work make sure that the switches and power cords are properly positioned and secured. If any of your work is to be printed, preset the printer paper at the position indicated by the printer instructions. Check your printer ribbon to determine if it needs replacing. Many of the current keyboards can be adjusted to the vertical slant desired. Check your keyboard to see if it can be adjusted.
