Why have you decided to enroll in a keyboarding class? You should have a well considered answer for this question. Most students reply that they have enrolled for the purpose of developing a keying skill that could be applied to their personal needs. Personal use keying includes the keying of personal letters, reports, and the like. There is evidence that most students who key their school work receive higher grades than do students who use handwriting. The next most stated reason for having enrolled in a keyboarding class is the knowledge that most office jobs do require keyboarding. There is one certainty--few keyboarders have regretted the time they spent learning to key data. Yet, many, many, people have expressed their regret that they did not take a keyboarding class when offered the opportunity. All of the uses that one may have in later life for a keying skill are not apparent to the keyboard student who is usually of high school age. The teacher, the housewife, the President--all of these people realize the value of being able to keyboard on a computer. A point of possible interest to you is that once a keyboarding skill is learned, it is never forgotten.
