You need not save all the lists you are studying. If you can recreate the lists quickly, there is no need to save. Some of the predefined lists take a long time to create. You can save time in the future by saving them. The lists saved to files are compressed in order to reduce hard drive (or floppy drive) space. While viewing List or Hooks, if the current word has an asterisk next to it, that word is a phoney. # File Menu tips You can create an empty list. Choose "File/New Predefined List..." followed by "Cancel" in the Predefined Lists window. You can create customized lists. Choose "File/New Custom List..." and explore. You can create an exact copy of the current list. Choose "File/Save As..." and give a new name. You can attach a description and notes to your lists. Choose "File/Notes...". You can preview the current list before printing. Choose "File/Print Preview". You can print all the words in the current list. Choose "View/Slide Show/List" followed by "File/Print...". You can print hooks to all the words in the current list. Choose "View/Slide Show/Hooks" or "View/Quiz/Hooks" followed by "File/Print...". You can print anagrams of all the words in the current list. Choose "View/Slide Show/Anagrams" or "View/Quiz/Anagrams" followed by "File/Print...". You can change the margins, headers, footers, font sizes, spacing etc. for printing lists. Choose "File/Page Setup...". You can let the program print the current date in headers and footers. Use \D in the header or footer title. You can let the program print the current list name and description in headers and footers. Use \F in the header or footer title. You can let the program print the current page number and total number of pages in headers and footers. Use \# for current page number and \P for total number of pages in the header or footer title. The most recently used 4 lists are listed in the File menu. You can open any of them by choosing their name under the File menu. # Edit Menu items You can customize the current list. Choose "Edit/Customize...". You can merge a new list to the current list. Choose "Edit/Import/Lexpert (*.lxp) File...". You can create your own list. Use NOTEPAD to create the list and choose "Edit/Import/Text (*.txt) File..." to merge it with the current list. You can go to the first word in the current list. Choose "Edit/Go to Word/First". You can go to the last word in the current list. Choose "Edit/Go to Word/Last". You can go to any word in the current list quickly. Choose "Edit/Go to Word/Other...". While viewing Hooks or Anagrams, you can find the next word that has at least one answer. Choose "Edit/Go to Word with Answer/Next". While viewing Hooks or Anagrams, you can find the previous word that has at least one answer. Choose "Edit/Go to Word with Answer/Previous". You can "Undelete" all the words you deleted for the current list. Choose "Edit/Undelete All". # View Menu You can look at all the words in the current list one at a time. Choose "View/Slide Show/List". You can look at Hooks to the words in the current list. Choose "View/Slide Show/Hooks". You can look at Anagrams of the words in the current list. Choose "View/Slide Show/Anagrams". You can type Hooks to the words in the current list. Choose "View/Quiz/Hooks". You can type Anagrams to the words in the current list. Choose "View/Quiz/Anagrams". You can turn on/off the toolbar by choosing "View/Toolbar". You can turn on/off the status bar by choosing "View/Status bar". # Tools Menu You can search for Patterns, Anagrams and Build words. Choose "Tool/Search..." You can find all 7 letter words beginning with AE. Choose "Tool/Search...". Type AE????? in the Input field and choose "Search". You can find all the words beginning with AE. Choose "Tool/Search...". Type AE* in the Input field and choose "Search". You can find all 8 letter words ending with ABLE. Choose "Tool/Search...". Type ????ABLE in the Input field and choose "Search". You can find all the words ending with ABLE. Choose "Tool/Search...". Type *ABLE in the Input field and choose "Search". You can find all 7 letter words containing the letters AEINST. Choose "Tool/Search..." and "Anagram" as the search type. Type AEINST? in the Input field and choose "Search". You can find all the words that are in AEIMOQRTXZ. Choose "Tool/Search..." and "Build" as the search type. Type AEIMOQRTXZ in the Input field and choose "Search". # Options You can change the order of viewing letters in a word in Anagrams. Choose "Options/Anagrams...". You can change the length of the hooks. Choose "Options/Hooks..." You can look at the front hooks only. Choose "Options/Hooks..." and choose "Front Hooks". You can look at the end hooks only. Choose "Options/Hooks..." and choose "End Hooks". You can look at both front and end hooks. Choose "Options/Hooks..." and choose "FrontHooks, End Hooks". You can change the timer for Slide Show. Choose "Options/Slide Show...". You can look at the Word and its Answers in Slide Show mode at the same time. Choose "Options/Slide Show..." and set "Time Between Answers" to 0. You can view the letters of the main word as Tiles. Choose "Options/Slide Show...". Verify that "View Tiles in the Word window" is checked. You can view the Probability Factor (PF) for the current Word in the Status bar. Choose "Options/Status Bar...". Verify that "Show Probability Factor" is checked. You can view the number of Answers for the current Word in the Status bar. Choose "Options/Status Bar...". Verify that "Show number of Answers" is checked. You can change the colors for Slide Window, Main Window, and Tiles. Choose "Options/Color/". You can change the Font size for the Slide Window. Choose "Options/Font Size/". You can drag the Tiles when viewing Anagrams. Verify that "Options/Show Tiles" is checked. # Help menu You can view the index for all the help topics. Choose "Help/Index...". You can search for help using Keywords. Choose "Help/Search...". You can learn about using online help. Choose "Help/Using Help...". The version and other LeXpert related information is listed in the "About LeXpert" dialog. Choose "Help/About LeXpert...". # Custom Lists You can find words that have front and or end hooks. Choose "File/New Custom List...", and "Extension" as the Category. You can find words that begin with PRE as well as RE. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Pattern" as the Category and "Beginning 2" as the Search Type. You can find Compound words like FIREWOOD. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Pattern" as the Category and "Compound" as the Search Type. You can find words matching a Consonant Vowel pattern. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Pattern" as the Category and "Consonant Vowel" as the Search Type. You can find words matching a Cryptogram. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Pattern" as the Category and "Cryptogram" as the Search Type. You can find words that end with EY as well as Y. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Pattern" as the Category and "Ending 2" as the Search Type. You can find find words that contain J or Q or X or Z. Choose "File/New Custom List...", "Jumble" as the Category and "Contains Any" as the Search Type. You can find find words that contain exactly 3Es. To find 8 letter words formed by the stem EASTER, type "EASTER??". # General doc related You can delete/undelete words from the current list. # Predefined lists The 9 letter word SHORELINE contains a chain of legal 2 letter words. You can find words like these by choosing "File/New Predefined List..." and "SubWord" for the Subcategory and "Chain2Letter" for the List. The 8 letter word EULOGIAE contains 6 vowels. You can find words like these by choosing "File/New Predefined List..." and "NumVowels" for the Subcategory and "6" for the List. The letters EIMOPRS has 3 anagrams. You can find words like these by choosing "File/New Predefined List..." and "NumAnagrams" for the Subcategory and "3" for the List. COUNTERMELODIES is a compound word.
