Two Handed Spades Version 1.0 1) Introduction 2) Installation 3) File Descriptions 4) Modem Notes 5) Comments 6) Disclaimer 1) Introduction "Two Handed Spades!?!" Yep, Two Handed Spades. The dealing is a bit different, but other than that the game is pretty much the same as it's four handed brethren. Of course, there are no partners. It is just one-on-one; a two handed battle; human verses machine; a duel to the death; you against the world...anyway, you get the idea. I personally find this style more challenging. However, if you should not find the challenge enough for you, simply call up a friend and play over a modem. Two Handed Spades supports modem play and null-modem cable play. Two Handed Spades is shareware. That is to say, it's not free. Shareware is a means of marketing software for those of us who don't have a crack marketing department with a huge budget. The basic premise is that you get to try out the software before you buy it. Once you've tried the product, and decided it is worth the meager fee the starving computer programmer is asking, you send the starving computer programmer money and he sends you the latest, greatest version of the software. This process is known as Shareware Registration. Once said starving programmer has received your registration fee, the starving programmer will send you a disk with the latest and greatest version of Two Handed Spades, along with a personalized registration confirmation letter and other goodies. In this case the latest and greatest version has some of the annoying aspects of the shareware version taken out. Such as, the logo screen does not appear in-between ever game you play, the game loads much faster than the shareware version, and you get a free game (goodies) when you register. (The following paragraph should be in illegible, fine print at the bottom) The registration price is $14.50, plus $2.50 for shipping. You can either send a check or money order through the mail or use CompuServe's Software Registration forum (GO SWREG) and use SWREG ID# 8966. For complete details on registering your copy of Two Handed Spades read the Q & A section in the help file. If you send your registration through the mail you can fill out and print an order form by clicking on the Order Form button when the game first starts or by selecting Order Form from the Help menu. 2) Installation Aside from the ZIP file 2HSPAD.ZIP you will need one other file to successfully install and run Two Handed Spades. You will need: VBRUN300.DLL VBRUN300.DLL is the run-time module needed to run all programs written in the language Visual Basic. VBRUN300.DLL can be found on all on-line services. It is usually stored as VBRUN3.ZIP. Once you have VBRUN300.DLL put this file in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Installation couldn't be easier. Simply create a new directory and put all the files from 2HSPAD.ZIP into the directory. If you want to add a Program Group and Icons (Windows 3.1) or add a Program Folder (Windows 95) you can run SETUP.EXE. If you chose not to run the setup program you can start the game by double clicking on the file 2HSPADE.EXE. 3) File Descriptions You should find the following files in 2HSPAD.ZIP 2HSPADES.EXE - The executable Spades card game 2HSPADES.HLP - Spades Help file SETUP.EXE - Create Group, Icons, or Folder FILE_ID.DIZ - File identification file MODEM.TXT - Notes on modem commands README.TXT - This readme file WIN.WAV - WAV file used in game START.WAV - WAV file used in game BUZZ.WAV - WAV file used in game WIGGLE.WAV - WAV file used in game SET.WAV - WAV file used in game GLASSBRK.WAV - WAV file used in game SWING.WAV - WAV file used in game 4) Modem Notes The file MODEM.TXT has a partial listing of modem commands that are common to most modems.
