Name : Technetium Symbol : Tc Atomic # : 43 Atom weight: 98 (Most stable isotope) Melting P. : 2172 Boiling P. : 4877 Oxidation : +4, +6, +7 Pronounced : tek-NEE-shi-em From : Greek technetos, "artifical" Identified : E.G. Segre and C. Perrier in 1937 Appearance : Silvery-gray metal Note : First synthetically produced element [Properties] Technetium is a silvery-gray metal that would look much like platinum if it were ever produced in that form. It is normally produced, stored, and used in a powdered form. Chemically, it resembles a cross between manganese and rhenium. Technetium is located directly below manganese (Mn) and directly above rhenium (Re) on the periodic table of the elements. This is not an uncommon phenomenon throughout the middle part of the periodic table, where an element will resemble its fellow group members.
