Name : Radon Symbol : Rn Atomic # : 86 Atom weight: 222 Melting P. : -71 Boiling P. : -62 Oxidation : 0 Pronounced : RAY-don From : A variation of the name of another element, radium Identified : Friedrich E. Dorn in 1900 Appearance : Heavy radioactive gas Note : Original name was niton, "shining" [Properties] Radon is located at the bottom of the list of noble gasses in Group 0 of the periodic chart. Studies of this gas show that it fits the general mold for the so-called "inert" gasses. Radon gas liquifies easily and changes to its solid state at just -71 degrees. As a solid, it glows with yellow light that turns red-orange as the temperature is lowered further. The only confirmed compound of radon is radon fluoride, RnF.
