Introduction and Purpose of UK/Ireland Mobile Map ---------------------------------------------------- Introduction: Mobile Maps are 3D real-time landscape maps that are viewed with the Mobile Map Viewer software (included in this download.) The United Kingdom and Ireland Mobile Map included here is a 'geographic' map. It can be used to move around a general representation of terrain anywhere in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Hills, valleys, coastlines, large lakes and rivers, cities and large towns, can be visualised completely interactively and "on-the-fly". Purpose: To be a general reference tool to complement an ordinary world atlas or road map. The Mobile Map lets you see if a place is scenic for a holiday or day-trip, and educates you by showing what places actually look like on the ground (within realism limits - see below). Limitations: The resolution is similar to a detailed world atlas. Because of the 1km resolution of data, combination of different types of data, and programming technique: several smaller hills close together may occasionally be 'joined' into larger ones; hills have a more rounded appearance than in real-life; lakes may not always appear flat in mountainous areas; and small lakes and rivers that are narrower than 1km-2km may have been missed completely, or in sections. The terrain has also been exaggerated vertically to make it easier to visualise slopes (To change this exaggeration you can press the +/- keys inside the Viewer.) This is not the entire list of limitations. Consequently the Mobile Map of United Kingdom and Ireland SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR NAVIGATION, ROUTE-PLANNING, LINE-OF-SITE ANALYSIS, OR ACCURATE POSITIONING. 2. System Requirements ---------------------- * Html browser (Windows95 usually has one) such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. But NO Internet connection is required. * 12 MB Hard Drive Space * 386dx/486dx/Pentium PC * Windows95/Win3.1/WinNT * At least 350KB RAM 'conventional memory', 570KB for optimum performance * Microsoft MSDOS mouse compatibility 3. Installation method ---------------------- Having unzipped this file in a temporary directory such as c:\temp, run the file "mobuk10.exe" to begin installation of the Mobile Map of United Kingdom and Ireland. The installation can be automatic or customisable, and checks that you have sufficient hard-drive memory for installation. The Mobile Map of United Kingdom and Ireland is COMPLETELY UNINSTALLABLE and leaves no files in the c:\windows or c:\windows\system directories. 4. Price Information -------------------- The Mobile Map of United Kingdom and Ireland includes these two components: (a) The United Kingdom and Ireland map data: Has over 24000 sqr km of area free to test, and has the remaining area locked(encrypted) so that the complete map must be purchased to obtain a password to unlock(decrypt) the entire map area. The payment to unlock all the map data is: $30.00 single-user, $275 site-licence, $1450 world-licence. (b) The shareware Mobile Map Viewer 1.00 program: May be tested for one week, after which it should be purchased for $35.00, but it is physically possible (though illegal) to continue using it. If it has already been purchased with another Mobile Map it will naturally not have to be purchased again with this map. 5. Distribution Information --------------------------- The "mobuk10.zip" file can be freely distributed over the internet via public ftp sites, and on cover-disk or shareware-collection CD-ROMs. [Note for CD-ROM distribution: use the contents of mobuk10.zip, namely mobuk10.exe and mobuk10.txt directly, if people need to click on a self installing file.] For all other distribution situations you must abide by the terms of the "licence.txt" file that is installed with the program itself. 6.
