Microscope for the PC - Ver 3.0 Utility: MICSPEED.BAT ----------------------------------------------------- This is a quick bug fix for Microscope for the PC Version 3.0. Serial 130595 Reason for Utility --------------------- As PCs get ever faster, with slicker memory managers, disk controllers, and processors, the timing aspects of software become more difficult to manage across so many hardware mixes. Microscope for the PC is a personal endeavour designed to work on the lowliest PC to the highest one: from 286 to Pentium; from Windows 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and Windows 95; from PC DOS, MSDOS, and Norton Dos versions 3.1 to 7.0! This is a tall order! Version 3.0 serial 130595 was released with a view to making the software more accessible to Windows users. However, it is still at heart a DOS program. DOS users, who may not have switched to the Microsoft Windows interface, BUT have updated their PCs to faster ones may have difficulty making Microscope perform slow enough to make it user-friendly. I have therefore released this small utility to help configure Microscope on a wide range of platforms. It should only be used if you are unable to obtain an optimum level of co-ordination and response when using Microscope. If you experience problems with the on-screen controls behaving too fast or too slow then this utility will help you. The types of problem you might experience are:- When you click on a button, it clicks rapidly and the operation which follows happens so fast that you are unable to release the mouse button prior to a subsequent and unwanted operation happening, eg. when selecting a slideset to load from the list. Alternatively, when you click on a button, you find a long delay occurs before something happens in response to your action. If you experience these difficulties, you should use the CFG button on the main screen near the FINI button to try and adjust the appropiate timing. The MAIN screen is where you actually view the slide images. The CFG button is a very tiny one at thetop of the screen and just right of center. If this option fails to put things right, then you can use this utility to either increase or decrease overall performance speed. Unzipped Files -------------- Place all the unzipped files into the Mscope directory, where the Microscope software is located. The unzipped files are:- README.TXT.............. This file MIC_CFGF.DTA............ Faster Speed Configuration MIC_CFGS.DTA............ Slower Speed Configuration MICSPEED.BAT............ The software which switches them. How to use the Utility ======================= From DOS:- ---------- Log onto the Mscope directory and enter the following from the DOS command line: MICSPEED This will explain how to use the utility. From Windows:- ---------------- Select the RUN option from the Program Manager (3.1) or the equivalent option from Windows95 [I don't have it yet:-)], and enter: c:\mscope\micspeed in the RUN BOX. If you are using a different drive than 'C' then enter the correct drive letter instead of C: This will explain how to use the utility. After using the utility ======================== You will need to access the CFG options again when running Microscope for the first time to fine-tune software performance.
